Local Red Cross Volunteers Deploy to Flooded Midwest

The floods in the Midwest have hit close to home as two American Red Cross volunteers from the Ohio Buckeye Region deployed to assist residents of this hard-hit region. They join more than 500 Red Cross disaster workers assisting people affected by the flooding in states such as Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan, and Illinois. The Red Cross has opened almost 50 shelters and, working with partners, has provided an estimated 23,000 meals and snacks and  more than 8200 relief items,.

Specialized Red Cross volunteers are also providing medical, mental health, and spiritual care. These volunteers have professional credentials in their respective fields as well as training in disaster services.

Red Cross disaster workers will continue to assist residents both during and after the disaster, delivering relief items and cleanup supplies directly to them when it is safe to return to the affected neighborhoods.
