Generous Central Ohio donors responded to the call for help for victims of the Super Typhoon that recently tore through the Philippines.
In the wake of this disaster, there are more than 3,000 people dead, and more than 12,000 who are injured. In addition, estimates range from 9 million to 13 million people who were affected by this disaster.
Columbus Red Cross volunteers and staff answered the “Call 4 Helpline” phones on Monday 11/11 and again on Thursday 11/14 to take donations for Red Cross International Services. Nearly $13,000 was raised in these two events.
Along with the efforts of local volunteers, the Red Cross has internationally raised over $11 million in support of typhoon victims. Relief funds will be allocated towards essential items such as food, blankets, hygiene kits, and mosquito nets.
Specialized emergency response teams from Red Cross societies across the globe are also arriving in the Philippines to assist the Philippine Red Cross. These include teams with expertise in logistics, disaster assessment, shelter, health, water and sanitation.
The American Red Cross expects to make additional contributions to support the disaster relief response in the coming weeks. Donations received from American Red Cross will greatly benefit the Philippines relief and recovery efforts through the Philippine Red Cross.
If you would like to make a contribution towards the typhoon victims in the Philippines, your donations will greatly help in these efforts. Please donate today.
