Big plans are underway for this year’s Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign in our region.
Each year we collect cards between October and early December and then distribute them at military installations, veterans hospitals, and in other locations.
As you may know, the effort started accidentally after the World Trade Center bombings, when there was concern about the security of Holiday Cards being sent to wounded service members.
The Red Cross stepped up and organized the effort to get cards checked for safety and delivered to our Heroes, and has continued the tradition ever since then.
Throughout the year, you can make a difference with a monetary gift to help military families through the Red Cross. Your donation can help change a military family’s life. Donate Now.
There are several ways to be part of the Holiday Mail for Heroes program. In addition to sending cards on your own, you may want to host card signing parties or card making parties. The Red Cross Website provides many guidelines for these parties.
In our area, State Farm is helping sponsor several high-profile signing events, including one at the annual tree lighting ceremony at the Statehouse. Thanks to the SAF team for all their help in engaging people in the signing and distribution events.
