Red Cross volunteers helped 30 families on Monday, January 30 when their apartment building on the north side of Columbus caught on fire. Volunteers gave residents money for food, helped some replace medications and handed out lots of comfort items like teddy bears, blankets, toothbrushes, water and snacks.

David, a resident forced from his apartment because of the fire, told volunteer Lori about experiencing another home fire when he was 16-years-old. His great sense of humor helped him deal with the trauma.

Later, they delivered cots, sheets and blankets to residents who were moved to new apartments within the complex and consoled many who were distraught after the trauma.  Thank goodness for the support of our community – we had the financial and human resources necessary to help 71 individuals.
