One of the most interesting aspects of the American Red Cross is also one of the least known. Did you know that the American Red Cross is congressionally chartered to provide emergency communication between military members and their families? Or that we host get-togethers for new military families to provide a network of support?
The “Get To Know Us Before You Need Us” program introduces new military members, and their families, to the American Red Cross. This program informs military families of the emergency communications available to them in times of birth, death, illness and emergency. These messages are verified by the Red Cross. Some situations require the warmth and compassion of another person—when a beloved family member is dying or a new child is brought into the world, a letter or phone call just won’t do. A Red Cross service member works with the military to personally deliver each message. The Red Cross is proud to be represented in every military installation around the world to serve military members and their families, while they serve for us.
