Why donate? Every day across America, approximately 38,000 blood donations are needed to help patients continue to live. Blood is needed for accident victims, premature babies, those undergoing treatments for cancer or blood disorders and even for those who may need to have a routine surgery.
The day before I began my job with the American Red Cross, my mother received a Red Cross blood transfusion that helped her recover from a major surgery. I am so grateful to the donors who made that transfusion possible!
Check out these blood statistics – they will give you a good idea of the pressing importance of blood donation in the United States.
