I can see the headline now… Red Crosser Takes Photo Instead of Cover

I felt a strong responsibility to tell gawkers, including my own family, to find shelter instead of watching this funnel cloud turn up in the sky on a warm evening in August while vacationing on Lake Erie – I work for the Red Cross after all. But instead, I watched and photographed with the rest of them. After the fact, I sent my photos to 10TV’s chief meteorologist, Chris Bradley, and he responded,

“Now that is pretty cool.  I would say that is a cold air funnel if you asked me.  Was this when it was just starting to cool down?  These are pretty common on Lake Erie and rarely touch down or do any damage.”  Chris

So I didn’t put my loved ones in harms way after all. But seeing this crazy site did prompt a discussion about where to take cover if severe weather does threaten – a conversation I encourage you to have with your family today!
