Service is the word I think of when I think of my experience as an AmeriCorps member with the American Red Cross. This experience has enabled me to serve my community, serve like-minded individuals who are dedicated to volunteering their time to help others in need, serve vulnerable populations and serve my co-workers. AmeriCorps empowered me to actively engage the community on the services the American Red Cross provides. I was able to sit and talk with volunteers from all walks of life, from high school students to retired adults, all of which brought a new perspective and insights to the Red Cross.
My next journey is graduate school up in Tivoli, NY (approx. 90 miles north of the city). I will be attending Bard College for Environmental Policy. The program I am in is a master’s international program, which means it is coupled with the Peace Corps. I will be doing one year of course work in NY and then I will be deployed into the Peace Corps for 2 ½ years, working on my Master’s thesis. Once my Peace Corps term is up, I will return back to Bard College to prepare for my final year of school. Hopefully, if all goes according to plan, I will be working for a non-profit in the field of conservation and sustainability…. Ideally in a third world country.
It has been a pleasure getting to know each and every one of you. This is an experience I will never forget.
Until next time!!
Thanks to Volunteer Resources AmeriCorps member, Jamie Wilson, for this post.
