I think we are all pretty familiar with Grandparent’s Day, I for one couldn’t wait for my grandma to visit me at school each year. As for Parent’s Day I hadn’t really heard of it until recently. Being a parent myself, I must say I look forward to the day when my son is old enough to get this concept(!), but until then I am looking forward to honoring my own Mom on Parent’s Day Sunday, July 25th.
How does this relate to the Red Cross you might ask? Well it was my mother who taught me the importance of helping others. I am so fortunate to work at a place where I am surrounded by staff and volunteers who put a high value on helping others. Our volunteers are out in the community 24/7 responding to fires, teaching health and safety classes, driving seniors to medical appointments and much more. In my position with the Communications and Marketing Department I am fortunate to be able to capture their stories and share them with all of you. I have learned so much in my 8+ years with the Red Cross, and I credit my start to my mom. Take a moment this weekend to honor the people who have nurtured you along the way, including those with the official “parent” title and the many “unofficial” parents in your life. While you are at it, make sure to have fun!
Happy Parent’s Day!
