City of Dublin Team Takes Top Honors at Local Lifeguard Competition

The crowd at the Grandview Municipal Pool spent this past Sunday morning cheering on lifeguards from 20 pools participating in the 2010 American Red Cross Lifeguard Competition. However, only one team could come out on top.

The Dublin Phoenix team from the City of Dublin took home the first place trophy for the third year running. Groveport teams placed second and third, and two teams from the YMCA of Central Ohio placed fourth and fifth.

These top teams will compete at the State Lifeguard Competition in Tipp City on August 1, 2010.

While the competition is intended to be friendly and fun, the skills tested are ones that could mean life or death for an individual facing an emergency. “Every year I am impressed with the level of skill demonstrated during this competition. It is clear how seriously teams take not only this completion, but their job to keep swimmers safe,” said Scott Gerding, Aquatics Coordinator.
